Quick Climate Post in honor of this week's historic heatwave

Yesterday's high (Sunday, 6/22/25) was 92 in Celo. This week's forecast inspired me to check the archives for our NWS Celo weather station (CELO2S). We have records for most years since 1948 at this station (a few missing years in the 2010s), and yesterday was only the 40th day of 92 or higher across those 70+ years of records. There are probably not many people around who can recall the summer of 1952, but apparently that is the "summer of record" for heatwaves. The all time high of 97 was set on June 25, 1952, then tied on the 26th & 28th. It's only been 95 or higher 10 times in the past ~75 years, and 9 out of 10 of those days were during the summer of 1952. In fact, it was 95+ for 7 straight days (June 24-30, 1952). That summer also saw 17 out of the 40 days that have been 92 or above. Yes, the climate is changing, but extreme weather events have always occurred -- they are just more likely now.
